Homemade dog treats are very simple to make and can actually be delicious for humans as well. Yes you heard right, I actually came up with a quick dog treat recipe with all natural ingredients that you can also enjoy! When it came to deciding on the ingredients I followed 2 simple rules: research what dogs are allowed to eat, and avoid what fattens up humans (e.g. wheat). And here you go, left with a few ingredients that can make some delicious and healthy dog treats.
I chose peanut butter as it is known to be a good source of protein for dogs, but make sure it is sugar and salt free, otherwise you’re really defeating the purpose of healthy dog biscuits. And note, our sugar substitute Xylitol can actually be toxic to dogs so carefully read the labels.
I went with oats as they are a gluten free alternative to flour and a tasty ingredient that actually strengthens your dog’s immune system. Finally to sweeten and for texture I included a banana. This is what makes the biscuits an actual treat, as although high in vitamins and potassium, bananas also have a high sugar content and should therefore not be part of your dog’s regular diet.
As always you’ll find the details of the recipe below, but let me tell you, these soft and chewy treats are tried and tested and happily approved by 2 lovely dogs who couldn’t get enough of them. And that huge smile we get at the end is what we’re doing this for anyways isn’t it! Let me know, have you ever baked for your dog?
